The place of new beginnings in learning and confidence
TLC began serving Mid-Missouri learners and their families in June, 1976. Over the years we have served thousands of individuals with a wide range of learning needs. We have achieved a broad degree of success as we have helped these learners.
We help the learner take positive control of his/her learning experiences. In addition, we help each student develop the knowledge, skills, concepts and strategies necessary to be a positive, productive learner.
TLC uses a blend of diagnostic/developmental instruction and mentoring. Although we work in an "away from school" setting, our primary goal is to help a student succeed in his/her normal learning situation. Therefore, we seek to work as closely as possible with the student, parents, teachers and others.
The philosophy of TLC is predicated upon the concept that learners can and want to learn. For a variety of reasons, however, some learners may not be able to learn efficiently, effectively or satisfactorily. A benchmark of TLC is that we use a no-guilt approach in our interactions with each client. We do not sit in judgment of clients. Instead, we establish a problem-solving, solution-seeking approach to helping each individual.
We at TLC believe a learner is a five-part, whole person -- a physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual being. To move toward success, the learner and the others in his/her learning network must take into the account the five parts of his/her personhood. It is relatively common for learners to emphasize some of the parts to the neglect or disregard of the others. Therefore, TLC seeks to help the learner re-establish a healthy balance among those five essential areas
